San Francisco artist Jason Hailey, also known as Chor Boogie, thought he had suffered enough after he was stabbed while painting a 100-foot-long mural commissioned by The City on Market Street.
But after recovering from the Nov. 7 attack, Hailey returned to the Mid-Market neighborhood to finish the mural and discovered that a vandal had spray-painted a long line clear across his artwork.
“I thought getting stabbed was enough,” Hailey said.

Big tobacco is challenging San Francisco policies yet again.
Philip Morris USA and several local retailers recently filed a complaint in San Francisco Superior Court accusing The City of violating state law when it imposed a 20-cent charge on packs of cigarettes on Oct. 1 without approval from voters.
The complaint is a precursor to a lawsuit.

According to folks around City Hall, the mayor left again last week for a second holiday trip with family in Hawaii. The mayor spent time in Hawaii during Christmas week, returned to The City for a few days the following week and then jetted back to the islands last Wednesday.

The Bohemian Club gained state approval for a hotly-contested plan to harvest timber at the exclusive campsite retreat property it owns near Monte Rio in Sonoma County.

Mayor Gavin Newsom wants to step up efforts to remove gum, glass and cigarette butts from The City’s streets in reaction to less-than-stellar results in a recent city litter audit.
“We still have less litter out on the streets than we did two years ago, but the numbers started to creep up in this last audit,” Newsom said in a year-end address posted on YouTube.

A major green project city officials say will help revitalize the downtrodden Civic Center area and boost local employment will be spearheaded by a San Francisco company.
Downtown-based Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Co. recently netted a $3.37 million contract to help renovate and modernize the 73-year-old building at 50 United Nations Plaza, which has been vacant since 2007, spokeswoman Gene Gibson said.
