If the cops are hot on your trail, the last place you probably want to go is your family’s home — where marijuana is illegally being grown.
That’s what police said happened in the Bayview last weekend after officers wanted to detain a young man who was allegedly swigging beer in public.
About 1:30 p.m. Saturday, police said, the officers were patrolling the area of Third Street and Palou Avenue when they saw a man boozing. Police identified the man as 20-year-old Antwain Barker of San Francisco.

Police are hunting for an impious robber who swiped an iPhone from a 6-year-old boy outside a San Francisco church during prayer services last weekend.
About 7:20 p.m. Saturday, police said, officers responded to a Baptist church at Palou Avenue and Quint Street in the Silver Terrace neighborhood on a report of a robbery.
A 24-year-old woman told the officers that she and her 6-year-old son were attending services. At one point, she said, she allowed the child to go outside and play video games on her iPhone.

The teenage boy who shot and killed his friend Andy Zeng, 16, in a Silver Terrace home two years ago — and then horrifically botched an attempt to dispose of the body — was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter last summer, The San Francisco Examiner has learned.
The verdict mattered little to Zeng’s mother, Lian Hao Zhou, who said no court decision would bring back her son, according to Francis Chan, who had worked with the family through the San Francisco Community Response Network after the killing.

A man suffered deep slash wounds during one of two nighttime robberies at San Francisco ATMs on Monday, police said.
The 29-year-old victim was robbed about 3:15 a.m. while using an ATM at 24th and Mission streets, police said. Two thugs reportedly blocked the man’s path as he was leaving the cash machine. The man tried to run, but was sliced twice with a knife and robbed of his wallet, cellphone and cash, police said.

This suspect wasn’t very bright after all.
Southern Police Station officers who had been patrolling the Sixth Street corridor during the early morning hours of Feb. 12 said they came upon a vehicle traveling southbound with its high beams on.
The officers made a U-turn and began to follow the vehicle, police said. After running a computer check on the license plate, police said they learned the vehicle had been stolen.
“Officers safely performed a traffic stop and were able to get the suspect into custody without further incident,” police said.

In the past 18 months, Campos said, he has teamed up with officers on a new program that targets at-risk youths who actually want to leave their gangs. According to the supervisor, “close to 10 young men” who had been contributing to rampant gang activity in the Mission are now employed with The City as gardeners.
Now Campos wants to expand the program to include private-sector employment opportunities.

A man was caught carting around 600 pounds of stolen copper wire Tuesday after he attempted to sell a clearly stamped Department of Public Works manhole cover to a Dogpatch recycling center, police said.
About 8 a.m., a Bayview Police Station officer was reportedly called by an employee at a recycling center in the 300 block of 20th Street who said the manhole cover had obviously been stolen from The City. The employee identified the suspect as Robert Chapple, 44, of San Francisco and said he had been coming twice a week for the past month to sell copper, police said.

A man said he was walking home from work in the Mission district Monday night when teenagers beat him up and stole his cash, police said.
Just before 10 p.m., police said, officers responded to the 3100 block of 24th Street on a report of robbery. The victim, who suffered a swollen cheek, said he saw three boys ages 15 or 16 hanging out on the street corner. To avoid them, police said, he walked into a store. But they reportedly attacked him anyway, taking money out of his pocket before fleeing.

A 28-year-old woman was repeatedly kicked in the head until she gave up her purse Monday night, police said.
About 10:10 p.m. near the Caltrain station at Fourth and King streets, two men reportedly grabbed at the woman’s purse. They caused her to fall to the ground, police said, but the woman did not give up without a fight. However, neither did the two crooks.
They reportedly kicked her in the head until she gave up her belongings. She was treated at a hospital for injuries not considered life-threatening.
