A thankless thug who asked for spare change at a Bayview gas station on Wednesday robbed a 69-year-old man who had agreed to give him money, police said.
The lout asked for cash as the victim got out of his car to pump gas at Third Street and Evans Avenue about 8:40 p.m.
“The victim agreed and pulled a $100 bill from his wallet to pay for the gas,” according to Bayview police.
The thug reportedly snatched the bill and pulled out a rusty handgun. He fled south on Phelps Street.

The “world’s greatest fisherman” has been pinched in a king-size crab scandal.
Dennis Sturgell, 60, whom the San Francisco Chronicle once dubbed the “world’s greatest fisherman” in a 2008 article, is facing charges of unlawful fishing in connection with an incident in San Francisco last fall in which he allegedly possessed more than 54,000 pounds of Dungeness crab.
On Thursday, Sturgell pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to return to court June 20, Assistant District Attorney Alex Bastian said.

Cameron Myers, 20, of Auburn has been identified as the man found with fatal stab wounds early Wednesday near India Basin Shoreline Park.
Neighbors called 911 after hearing Myers screaming near Innes Avenue and Arelious Walker Drive about 1:45 a.m. Myers later died at San Francisco General Hospital.
Police have been tight-lipped about the investigation, and no arrests have been reported.

At least four cellphone robberies were reported on Muni buses or at transit shelters Wednesday, police said.
About 11 a.m., a 25-year-old woman who was reportedly waiting for the bus at Third and Mission streets was knocked to the ground by a man in his 20s who swiped her cellphone.
Fifty minutes later, police said, a 29-year-old woman waiting at a bus stop at Geary and Laguna streets was robbed of her cellphone when a juvenile snatched it from her hand. He fled with the phone after a struggle, police said.

Apparently school detention is worse than a criminal record.
A Diamond Heights man thought his home was being burglarized last week when he encountered three young people inside.
It turned out the youngsters had been playing hooky at about 9:15 a.m. Friday, according to police, and had been running from school security. During their foolish escape, police said, one of the boneheads used a skateboard to smash a large window of the victim’s home on the first block of Amethyst Way.
They “were trying to use the residence as an escape route,” police said.

Marcus “Wolfie” Herrera, 24, was found not guilty Tuesday of murdering Robert Musial (pictured) in Golden Gate Park last year over a marijuana debt, but still faces up to four years in prison for beating Musial with a skateboard just before his death.
The 55-year-old Musial died from an irregular heartbeat following the April 27, 2012, attack on Hippie Hill, said the Medical Examiner’s Office, which originally ruled the death a homicide.

Twenty-eight people who had been squatting in an abandoned church in the Oceanview neighborhood for about eight months were forced to leave by San Francisco police Wednesday morning.
Police knocked on the door of the old church at Capitol Avenue and Broad Street at about 7 a.m. and gave the squatters time to leave. They left along with their three dogs, but one person was arrested for resisting arrest and another for a parole violation, Officer Albie Esparza said.

A woman selling a smartphone on Craigslist met the buyer last weekend in the parking lot of the McDonald’s near the Cow Palace, according to police, and the result was a rather slow robbery.
The 42-year-old San Francisco woman met the man at the Geneva Avenue fast food eatery at about 9:20 a.m. Saturday. The victim said she didn’t have a SIM card in the phone, and so the suspect attempted to use his SIM card. After that didn’t work, the patient thief took the time to call the cellular company and get the phone squared away.

Robert Joseph Simmons, 33, claims he’s not a lazy hippie, or in his words, a “ragamuffin,” but rather a Rastafarian minister whose refusal to abandon his beliefs might land him behind bars for a long time.
Simmons said he’s facing up to eight years in prison over a pot bust because he did not accept a plea agreement with prosecutors last week that would have had him serving just 60 days.

A 16-year-old boy was reportedly mugged for his cellphone by four teenagers outside a high school in the Bayview Monday afternoon.
Police said the robbery occurred about 4 p.m. outside the Metropolitan Arts & Technology High School on Hudson Avenue.
The 16-year-old did not know the suspects, all boys of about the same age, police said. They boys approached him outside school grounds and asked for his phone. When he refused, police said, the suspects jumped him and “knocked him out.”

A one-alarm fire in the Portola neighborhood last weekend not only uncovered an illegal marijuana operation, police said, it also led to the rescue of a neglected dog.
Firefighters responded to a property that houses apartments and a bottom-floor commercial unit in the 2700 block of San Bruno Avenue about 10:45 p.m. Saturday. While putting out the flames, police said, the Fire Department discovered the incident was likely linked to electrical wiring that had been powering the lights of a marijuana grow facility in the bottom unit.

A 19-year-old man told police he was jumped from behind by four soccer players after watching a game about 9:45 a.m. Police responded to the area of Mendell Street and Galvez Avenue, where the victim stopped at a taco truck after the match. While waiting in line, police said, the man was attacked from behind by four players from one of the teams.

Robert Hollywood, 55 – the man who made headlines in 2004 following his arrest for keeping hundreds of rats and mice, dozens of them dead, in his Menlo Park home – was sentenced Friday to 16 months in County Jail after pleading no contest to felony possession of methamphetamine. As part of his sentence, he received 181 days credit for time served, according to prosecutors.
