Two suspected teen killers make court appearance

The two female suspects arrested Wednesday in the 2004 murder of a 26-year-old man were both 16 years old at the time of the shooting, living “in and out of foster homes,” according to a police investigator on the case.

Felicia Mehrara, of San Francisco, and Kimberly Gutierrez, of El Sobrante, appeared in court Friday for arraignment. The women, now 18, remained silent as their attorneys asked for, and received, a postponement of the legal proceeding until Wednesday.

The victim, Eugene Gorenman, a software engineer for PG&E and recent UC Berkeley graduate, was “lured” to the beach by a group of four women, according to San Francisco police Inspector Holly Pera, and then “robbed and killed.”

A third suspect in the case, San Francisco resident Jillian McIlvenna, 21, was arrested May 9, 2005. All three women have been charged with homicide, robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle.

A fourth woman was there for most of the incident, but is not considered a suspect at this time.

The women were initially identified through the man’s stolen property, but it was other information developed through them and other sources that identified the three as being responsible for the homicide, Pera said.

The recent arrest was not due to new evidence, but followed a new review of the case by the District Attorney’s Office, Pera said.
