Two men injured in Tenderloin, Mission stabbings

Police responded to two stabbings in The City Monday in the Tenderloin and Mission neighborhoods, according to police.

A 40-year-old man was stabbed around 2:05 a.m. Monday with an unknown weapon after a verbal argument outside of businesses near Ellis and Powell streets escalated into a man in his twenties stabbing the 40-year-old, according to police.

After he was stabbed, the 40-year-old man ran into a nearby building where the establishment’s security called the police. The suspect ran away and was not arrested, police said.

A second stabbing occurred around 8 p.m. in the Mission neighborhood after two men in their twenties tried to steal another man’s backpack.

The victim, a 27-year-old man, was walking near the 700 block of Mission Street whe two men in their twenties tried to take his backpack. He refused to give it up, which resulted in a fight where one of the suspects pulled out a knife and stabbed him, police said.

The two men who attempted to steal the man’s backpack ran away and no arrests have been made.

Between Friday morning and Monday night, five people were injured in stabbings in The City and only one suspect has been arrested, according to police reports.
