The trial of a homeless, wheelchair-bound man with mental health issues who earlier this year stabbed a police officer after being pepper-sprayed began Wednesday.
Randal Dunklin, 56, is facing assault charges stemming from his confrontation with police in January. But Dunklin’s attorney has put the police on trial. Officers were filmed by a bystander shooting Dunklin while he was in his wheelchair.

A wheelchair-bound man was assaulted during a heartless robbery attempt in the Tenderloin on Sunday morning, police said.The 60-year-old victim was ruthlessly beaten after trying to wheel away from the robber at Eddy and Taylor streets around 7:35 a.m.A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene shortly after the assault. He allegedly demanded cash, then punched the victim repeatedly and knocked him out of his wheelchair after he tried to escape, police said.
