Less than two weeks after the USF men’s basketball season ended in the first round of the CBI Tournament, the Dons received news that six players, including starters Michael Williams and Perris Blackwell, will not be returning next season, school sources confirmed.
Blackwell was an All-West Coast Conference honorable-mention selection as he averaged 12.7 points and 6.1 rebounds this season.

After clawing out of a big hole to give itself a chance to advance in the West Coast Conference tournament in Las Vegas, the USF women’s basketball team eventually ran out of gas in a 66-60 loss to Loyola Marymount on Wednesday.
USF trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half, but rallied to within a point after Jamie Katuna buried a 3-pointer with 1:42 left in the game to make it 59-58. But that’s as close as the Dons (5-25) would get the rest of the way.

After leading St. Mary’s to its first outright West Coast Conference regular-season title since 1989, junior guard Matthew Dellavedova was named the WCC Player of the Year on Tuesday.

Following the USF men’s basketball team’s game first game this season against BYU on Jan. 7, coach Rex Walters said he was the reason the team did not play well.
“I set basketball back 100 years trying to walk it up against BYU and get our guys nonaggressive,” Walters said at the time. “We’ve got to be aggressive. That’s why I recruited them. I’ve got to put them in situations where they can be successful.”
