Election Day apparently went smoothly across San Mateo County, where turnout was low and a higher percentage of voters than ever before cast ballots by mail.
About three-quarters of voters cast their ballots by mail, which county Elections Manager David Tom said was higher than in previous years. “The trend seems to be pointing more and more that way,” he said.

Millbrae Planning Commission member and 28-year resident Wayne Lee announced Wednesday he is running for City Council. Lee has served on the commission for five years. He helped establish the Millbrae Education Foundation, and teaches and mentors teens through the Lions Club, coaches AYSO soccer and has organized the Lunar New Year parade for the past four years. Councilors Dan Quigg and Paul Seto are retiring.
