Pivotal victory keeps upstart Urban in first-place tie

The Urban High School boys’ basketball team has been an afterthought in recent memory, but with the coaching of Joe Skiffer and the play of juniors Nate Cohen and Matt Monges, the Blues are making some noise in the Bay Counties League West. Urban girls' basketball doesn’t have to wait long for first victory

Last season, it took the Urban High School girls’ basketball team 10 games to get its first win. This season, it only took one. Led by seniors Carly Kuperschmid and Jenna Waldman, who scored 14 points apiece, the Blues defeated visiting Fremont Christian 60-24 in their season opener Monday at Kezar Pavilion.
