A former official for two San Mateo County school districts who used public funds to pay for his own home renovations was sentenced Monday to two years in state prison.
Timothy Hanretty had worked for both the Woodside and Portola Valley school districts. He pleaded no contest to felony charges of misappropriating public funds and forgery.

Timothy Hanretty, a former Portola Valley School District superintendent, pleaded no contest Tuesday to multiple felony charges involving millions of dollars he is accused of misappropriating from two school districts.
Hanretty bilked more than $100,000 from Portola Valley schools and misappropriated almost $2 million from the Woodside school district, where he also once worked, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said.
