Construction, street closures begin at West Portal and 15th avenues

Work began today on a two-week construction project in the West Portal neighborhood that will affect traffic flow for motorists.Westbound traffic will be shut down on West Portal Avenue from 15th Avenue to Sloat Boulevard every weekday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., for a drainage project being overseen by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which manages traffic in The City. A hammer-wielding thug attacked a 37-year-old man after a dispute in the Outer Sunset district on Wednesday, police said.The victim told cops the thug “made a derogatory gesture at him” in the 2500 block of Sloat Boulevard around 7:40 a.m. The victim got out of his car to confront the suspect, who was in his early 40s, police said.The suspect whipped out a hammer and struck the victim in the left ear, police said.
