San Mateo road rage incident straight out of urban legend

In a case of road rage eerily reminiscent of urban legend, a man was threatened at gunpoint early Sunday morning in San Mateo for flashing his high beams at the armed driver, police said.  The victim was on state Highway 92 about 12:05 a.m. when he was passed by a newer-model black Mercedes sedan with its high beams on, police said. San Mateo officials warn of phone scams after three people fall victim to con artists

Officials in San Mateo are warning residents to beware of telephone scammers who have recently conned elderly victims into wiring money abroad under false pretenses, police said.One San Mateo resident was contacted by a suspect claiming to be a grandson who had been arrested for drunken driving in New York, according to San Mateo police. A second suspect claiming to be a public defender instructed the victim to wire money via Western Union to cover legal expenses. Read More
