Police are looking for the dognapper responsible for the mysterious disappearance Tuesday of a 10-week-old puppy from the San Francisco SPCA.
Violet, a 7-pound terrier mix, was taken about 2 p.m. after an SPCA attendant had shown the puppy to a woman who was interested in adopting her. The employee and woman reportedly left the room where the dog was for several minutes and returned to find Violet missing.

A vicious dog mauling in a Nob Hill park has put the spotlight on The City’s rarely enforced leash laws.On the evening of Feb. 26, Kim Ferguson, 45, took her 12-pound poodle, Dijon, for one of his three daily walks to Huntington Park in Nob Hill. Pet abusers would have a tough time adopting new animals in San Francisco if a local database designed to track such offenders is created.
The City’s Animal Welfare Commission will discuss the proposal today to gauge support for it. The database would allow animal rescue groups to keep tabs on owners who have neglected pets or been involved in criminal cases associated with animals. It would be just the second of its kind in the nation.
