A man’s agonizing cries for help went unanswered as he lay dying on a Mission district sidewalk early Sunday.
Neighbors didn't call police until about five hours after Richard Sprague, 47, of San Francisco, was heard hollering "Help! 911! Help!" in the 100 block of Julian Avenue, near 15th Street. A man found in the bushes near St. Mary's Cathedral Monday morning likely committed suicide, a San Francisco police spokesman said.
A passerby spotted the unidentified body at Geary Boulevard and Gough Street and called police around 7:30 a.m., Officer Albie Esparza said.
A gun was also found at the scene, according to KTVU.
An official cause of death is pending an evaluation from the San Francisco medical examiner's office, Esparza said. Read More
An inmate found dead of an apparent suicide in his San Francisco jail cell last month has been identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as 48-year-old Valentin Georgiev, who was being held in connection with a hate crime attack in The City.Georgiev was found dead at about 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 4 at the jail at the Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant St., sheriff’s spokeswoman Eileen Hirst said.He was discovered while breakfast was being distributed to the inmates, Hirst said.
