As budget season warms up, police Chief Greg Suhr is warning that The City’s low homicide rate could grow if more officers are not put on the streets.The Police Department’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year has increased to $480 million, Suhr told the Board of Supervisors budget committee last week. Supervisors are in talks behind the scenes as the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee is set to finish up its deliberations on Mayor Ed Lee’s proposed $6.8 billion budget. Among the talks, whether to fund a police academy class, which can cost about $5 million. The committee has about $17 million in a pot of money they can relocate after reviewing the budget during the past two weeks and making cuts, as well as from unexpected revenues.
