Fire crews, PG&E inspecting minor gas main break in San Bruno

Construction crews working on a sewer line struck a 2-inch steel gas line in San Bruno causing a gas leak and evacuation of surrounding streets.The broken pipe was reported just after 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on the 500 block of Chestnut Avenue, according to Fire Dispatch of San Mateo County.As a precaution – and due to the strong smell – the street and some surrounding houses were evacuated as a precaution, San Bruno Mayor Jim Ruane said. Firefighters find man's body in Daly City home where fire broke out

DALY CITY - One person was killed in a fire this afternoon at a Daly City home where firefighters remained on scene for hours mopping up hot spots, according to the North County Fire Authority. Trapped climber rescued uninjured from cliff

A climber trapped on a Daly City cliff was rescued by fire crews Monday afternoon, according to the North County Fire Authority.The climber in distress was in the area of Mussel Rock Park on Westline Drive when two fire companies, one rescue unit and a chief officer responded to the area at about 4:40 p.m.The arriving company reported that the climber was located approximately 200 feet down a cliff from the parking lot, according to the fire authority. Daly City fire official says elementary school blaze was arson

A fire that damaged a Daly City elementary school on Sunday night appears to be a case of arson, a fire spokesman said this morning.Firefighters responded to Skyline Elementary School at 55 Christen Ave. at about 10:30 p.m. after a fire alarm in a portable classroom went off, North County Fire Authority spokesman Matt Lucett said.
