A cabdriver and two good Samaritans helped rescue a man from a car that had burst into flames in San Francisco’s South of Market district early Monday, using a toppled street sign to smash a window during the daring rescue, according to KTVU and fire officials.

A 2-ton historic church bell was stolen from St. Mary’s Cathedral on Geary Boulevard, police said Monday.

No one knows for certain when the bell was stolen from the garden. The theft was reported last weekend.
