A man was beaten into unconsciousness with a handgun after leaving a check cashing business in the Tenderloin on Tuesday night, police said.The 45-year-old victim was reportedly counting his cash while walking near Turk and Jones streets when two goons attacked him at about 7 p.m.One of the suspects grabbed him and held him while the other hit him with a gun until he was unconscious, police said. Seven hospitalized in Ellis Street fire

Seven people were transported to hospitals for treatment of injuries following a fire at Ellis and Jones streets, according to a San Francisco Fire Department dispatcher. The fire was reported at 5:20 p.m. on the 300 block of Ellis Street and is now contained. Further information on those injured was not available, the dispatcher said. Elderly man knocked to ground, robbed of laptop in Russian Hill

A 75-year-old man was knocked to the ground and robbed of his laptop in the middle of the afternoon in Russian Hill on Wednesday, police said.The cowardly crook crept up behind the elderly man at Broadway Avenue and Jones Street around 1:30 p.m. The thug knocked the victim to the ground, yanked away his laptop and fled, police said.The man was injured, but refused medical attention.There was no arrest.maldax@sfexaminer.com Read More

A man who allegedly bought crack cocaine in the Tenderloin on Sunday did not wait long to try to smoke it, police said. Undercover cops allegedly saw the person buy from a dealer at Geary and Jones streets. He then immediately stuffed the crack in a glass pipe at around 10:40 p.m., police said. Read More
