Haight-Ashbury recycling center receives final notice to vacate Golden Gate Park property

The Haight-Ashbury Neighborhood Council Recycling Center received its final eviction notice from San Francisco on Thursday, giving it until Wednesday to vacate the Golden Gate Park property it has occupied for 40 years. The notice came three months after the California Supreme Court declined to hear the recycling center’s case that it was wrongfully evicted in June 2011. Where will Whole Foods recycle?

The grand opening of the Whole Foods at Haight and Stanyan streets begs the question about where customers will be able to redeem their recyclables since HANC is scheduled for eviction. State law requires that every supermarket has some sort of compensation available within a half-mile of the store’s radius. HANC would fulfill that requirement being in the parking lot of Kezar Stadium. Read More
