San Francisco police are investigating why a wife whacked her sleeping husband in the head with a hammer at a downtown hotel on Saturday.Police were called to the Baldwin Hotel at 321 Grant Ave., a block from the entrance to Chinatown, and found a bleeding 67-year-old man in the lobby clutching a hammer around 12:45 a.m., San Francisco police spokesman Sgt. Elderly man sucker-punched, robbed in Chinatown

A 60-year-old man removing money from his wallet in Chinatown was viciously attacked by a thug nearly half his age Monday afternoon, police said.The thug sucker-punched the victim several times in the face on a street corner at California and Grant streets around 12:30 p.m. As the man fell to the ground, the suspect, described as an Asian man in his mid-to-late 30s, grabbed the cash from the wallet and fled, police said. Boom lift sinks into sidewalk at Sutter and Grant streets, temporarily closes intersection

A giant boom lift collapsed a weak section of sidewalk in downtown San Francisco on Tuesday morning, causing a huge gash in the concrete and a shutdown of a bustling block. The 25,000-pound lift was being used to wash windows at the building housing the Banana Republic store at Grant and Sutter streets.
