A 60-year-old man removing money from his wallet in Chinatown was viciously attacked by a thug nearly half his age Monday afternoon, police said.The thug sucker-punched the victim several times in the face on a street corner at California and Grant streets around 12:30 p.m. As the man fell to the ground, the suspect, described as an Asian man in his mid-to-late 30s, grabbed the cash from the wallet and fled, police said.

A giant boom lift collapsed a weak section of sidewalk in downtown San Francisco on Tuesday morning, causing a huge gash in the concrete and a shutdown of a bustling block. The 25,000-pound lift was being used to wash windows at the building housing the Banana Republic store at Grant and Sutter streets. The back tire of the lift sank into the ground shortly after 3 a.m., Fire Department spokeswoman Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.
