Multiple vehicle-pedestrian accidents over the week leave two dead

A pedestrian was struck head-on while crossing at Market and Church streets Wednesday, police said, and the driver fled the scene and left him for dead. The victim, a 39-year-old man, suffered a life-threatening head injury after a dark-colored sedan struck him on Market Street just after midnight, police Officer Gordon Shyy said. Police are searching for suspects in connection with a brutal attempted robbery in the Excelsior district last weekend that left a man with a facial bone fracture. These burglars are professional jerks. Police are hunting for a heartless thief or thieves who last week burglarized a Bayview district nonprofit that serves low-income youths, making off with 15 laptops that contained the kids’ hard work in digital media arts. The crooks apparently went to great lengths to pull off the heist. Shootings, fire on calm Fourth of July

Fireworks lit up the night during Fourth of July celebrations in San Francisco — and later, so did gasoline and bullets. About 1 a.m. Thursday, a teenager reported to police that he had been shot in the back while watching an illegal fireworks display at 14th and Shotwell streets in the Mission district. Man wakes up to fake cops trying to rob his home

A South of Market man was awakened early Thursday by two crooks who claimed to be cops, police said. The 39-year-old resident of the 500 block of Fourth Street called police after the suspects broke into his home just before 6 a.m. The door had been left unlocked, police said. When the victim woke up, he asked the crooks what they were doing. They were apparently rummaging through his apartment, police Officer Gordon Shyy said Thursday. The suspects claimed to be cops.
