San Francisco Ballet’s ‘Borderlands’ eerily familar

Although British choreographer Wayne McGregor’s “Borderlands” made its world premiere at the War Memorial Opera House on Tuesday night, the piece looks rather familiar. S.F. Ballet presents the classiest ‘Nutcracker’ of all

San Francisco Ballet’s current "Nutcracker" uses 173 costumes, 42 pairs of pointe shoes, more than 59 pairs of tights and 18 wigs per show. It’s a contrast to 1944, when it made do with rhinestones from Goodwill and rationed fabric in what was the first production of the ballet in America. San Francisco Ballet celebrated its season opening with a gala Wednesday.
A strong, entertaining opening night gala Wednesday night signaled the beginning of San Francisco Ballet’s 78th season.
