A hit-and-run driver knocked over a fire hydrant in the South of Market area Tuesday, according to a witness at the scene. The accident happened on Third Street between Howard and Folsom streets around 9:30 a.m., according to Charlene Evans, a worker in the area who reported the watery aftermath to The SF Examiner. The resultant geyser was “like four stories high,” Evans said.

A 2-inch valve on a water main broke Thursday morning in San Francisco’s Outer Mission neighborhood, creating a geyser of water that could be seen by commuters on a BART train traveling on nearby tracks, a San Francisco Public Utilities Commission spokeswoman said.The broken valve was reported around 7:45 a.m. near the intersection of Alemany Boulevard and Niagara Avenue, SFPUC spokeswoman Suzanne Gautier said.
