A refrigerated food transport vehicle will be rolling into a new home at the San Francisco Food Bank this holiday season as part of a nationwide donation spree from the Walmart Foundation and Feeding America, a major hunger-fighting organization. The 26-foot-long truck will have the capacity to transport and deliver 3,400 pounds of food per week, equaling 2,800 meals every day, throughout the Food Bank’s service area, according to Stacy Newman, the charity group’s media manager.

WHAT: A new report finds emergency food banks and pantries are becoming long-term solutions for a lot of hungry Americans.
WHY: More than half of those surveyed by the Chicago-based hunger-relief group Feeding America said they had gone to food banks anywhere from most months to every month. The group says some of those people also get food stamps, but it’s not enough.
