New nightclub rules in San Francisco would erode civil liberties, groups say

Rigid regulations to be discussed by the San Francisco Entertainment Commission on Tuesday evening are coming under fire from civil liberties and privacy groups. Under rules proposed by Mayor Gavin Newsom and the San Francisco Police Department, nightclubs would be required to use metal detectors, security cameras and have an added police presence in an effort to stem nightlife violence.
