Plethora of Peninsula clubs chase CCS dreams

The El Camino boys’ basketball team had never been to a Central Coast Section championship game. The Colts (25-4) had only won seven CCS playoff games in school history coming into the season, but with its second win over St. Ignatius this season, they find themselves in position to claim their first CCS title. The El Camino High School football team met after the nonleague season and set a goal to win the Peninsula Athletic League Lake Division and make it to the Central Coast Section playoffs. El Camino’s Ha sets sights on CCS, state tournaments

The sign on the wall of the El Camino High School mat room asks one question of the wrestlers who practice inside: How far do you want to go? It lists three destinations and how far away from El Camino each one is. San Mateo, the site of the PAL tournament, is nine miles. Independence High School in San Jose, which hosts the CCS tournament, is 49 miles. The last destination is Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, 291 miles away, where the state tournament will be held.
