Trunks on unmarked San Francisco police cars can no longer be opened from the inside following the recent theft of a semi-automatic rifle from one of the vehicles.
Police Chief Greg Suhr told the Police Commission last week that all the trunk releases have been disabled on unmarked vehicles since the March 2 burglary that temporarily robbed the department of an AR-15 assault rifle.

A man was shot and killed in the 2300 block of East 22nd Street in East Oakland on Thursday afternoon, police said.
It was the second fatal shooting in Oakland on Thursday.
In an early morning incident, police said, 24-year-old MiAndrew Rachel of Emeryville was found dead in the 900 block of West MacArthur Boulevard .
No arrests had been reported in either incident as of Thursday night.

Police have surrounded a home in East Oakland where they believe a suspect in a shooting outside a San Leandro Walmart store on Black Friday has barricaded himself. San Leandro police Sgt. Ted Henderson said a SWAT team has been summoned to a home near 106th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, where Detwone Watson, 29, is believed to be hiding and refusing to come out.

A private funeral was held this morning for 3-year-old Carlos Nava at an East Oakland church near where the toddler was killed in a drive-by shooting last week. Carlos was with family members when he was shot in the 6400 block of International Boulevard at about 1:10 p.m. on Aug. 8. Oakland police said they believe the shooting was gang-related and that two men nearby who were wounded in the shooting were the intended targets.

A man has been arrested and charged with the murder of 3-year-old Carlos Nava in East Oakland on Monday, Oakland police and prosecutors announced Thursday. Lawrence Denard, 26, has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.Nava was shot at about 1:10 p.m. near International Boulevard and 65th Avenue. Two men were also shot but survived.

A man who died after being shot in East Oakland on Thursday night was identified today as 20-year-old Ezra Flowers, of Oakland.Flowers was killed in a shooting reported at 9:51 p.m. Thursday in the 7100 block of International Boulevard.Oakland police initially said Flowers’ injuries were not considered life-threatening, but he was pronounced dead on Friday night.Oakland police haven’t released details about the shooting.
