Since a layer of red paint was laid down on a three-block stretch of the street, the 22-Fillmore has had a 5 percent reduction in travel time and a 20 percent increase in reliability along that stretch, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which manages Muni.

A pedestrian was struck head-on while crossing at Market and Church streets Wednesday, police said, and the driver fled the scene and left him for dead.
The victim, a 39-year-old man, suffered a life-threatening head injury after a dark-colored sedan struck him on Market Street just after midnight, police Officer Gordon Shyy said. The sedan was last seen driving north on Sanchez Street, Shyy said.
