Muni has success with transit-only lanes on Church Street

The new painted transit-only lane on Church Street — designed to keep private vehicles out of the way of Muni vehicles — appears to be paying dividends for the agency. Since a layer of red paint was laid down on a three-block stretch of the street, the 22-Fillmore has had a 5 percent reduction in travel time and a 20 percent increase in reliability along that stretch, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which manages Muni. Blow torch thief ‘sleeps’ on ATM job

This crook was allegedly caught sleeping on the job. A man accused of using a blow torch to break into an ATM in the Upper Noe Valley neighborhood last weekend was found by police moments later sleeping in a nearby pickup truck -- or at least pretending to. Multiple vehicle-pedestrian accidents over the week leave two dead

A pedestrian was struck head-on while crossing at Market and Church streets Wednesday, police said, and the driver fled the scene and left him for dead. The victim, a 39-year-old man, suffered a life-threatening head injury after a dark-colored sedan struck him on Market Street just after midnight, police Officer Gordon Shyy said.
