San Francisco election tallies still not settled

With about 90,000 San Francisco ballots still left to count, labor leader F.X. Crowley remains ahead of Board of Education President Norman Yee by a margin of only 331 votes in the battle for the District 7 supervisorial seat. It is unclear how many District 7 ballots are left to be counted, but it’s in the thousands. Department of Elections Director John Arntz said most of those ballots will be counted by Saturday. The 24,000 provisional ballots cast by people whose names didn’t appear on city voter rolls need to be reviewed, and won’t be counted until Tuesday at the earliest. Read More

Will the fun return to San Francisco politics?

When I first began writing about local politics, the Board of Supervisors was depressingly funny. There was former (and current) comedian Tom Ammiano, wry Aaron Peskin, “supervisor straitjacket” Chris Daly and the lovable, poetry-quoting Jake McGoldrick. But that was then. 'Women For Accountability and a Responsible Supervisor' aims to unseat Olague over Mirkarimi vote

District 5 incumbent Supervisor Christina Olague may have enjoyed a campaign boost from progressives after her vote to reinstate suspended Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi against the wishes of anti-domestic violence advocates, but now she is up against a newly formed political committee supported by a prominent ally of Mayor Ed Lee — Silicon Valley angel investor Ron Conway, along with his wife, Gayle. Support for Sheriff Mirkarimi gives Supervisor Christina Olague a boost

It is amazing what a single vote can do. Once not even worthy of a second- or third-choice endorsement by progressive leaders, Supervisor Christina Olague is now lapping up her reward for voting to reinstate Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi. Read More

San Francisco residents are sick of covering their eyes when faced with public nudity

The Board of Supervisors has not had a regular meeting for several weeks, so the mail from my fellow San Franciscans to the board has been piling up. Today we take a look at some of the colorful communications that arrived during the board’s hiatus. Read More

Backlash for board backing for Mirkarimi

Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi may be hoping for a smooth transition back into his job, and supervisorial candidate Julian Davis may hope the claims that he groped a woman will blow over. But there are machinations behind the scenes that are just getting started. Also in the crosshairs? The three members of the Board of Supervisors who voted to reinstate Mirkarimi and are up for re-election on Nov. 6 — John Avalos, David Campos and Christina Olague.
