Highway 1 closed in both directions following potentially fatal crash

U.S. Highway 1 has been shut down in both directions tonight following a potentially fatal crash in Pescadero in unincorporated San Mateo County, a California Highway Patrol officer said.The coroner was en route at about 7:10 p.m. to the scene of the two-vehicle crash in response to one possible fatality, Officer Ralph Caggiano said.The crash was reported at about 6:50 p.m. at Rossi Road. Motorcycle accident backed up traffic on San Mateo Bridge in both directions

Man injured when truck drives off San Mateo Bridge into Bay

A truck plunged off the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge on Tuesday morning a quarter of a mile past the toll plaza on the eastern side of the span.The white Ford F-250, which was driving west on the bridge, landed on its roof in about four feet of water just after 10:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to a hospital with abrasions on his arms and head and is expected to survive, said CHP spokesman Officer Art Montiel.
