Two men and a boy were reportedly arrested Wednesday after leading cops on a car chase that ended in a tangled mess of metal on a Hayes Valley street corner. The suspects had allegedly stolen someone’s backpack before the chase, which ended at the corner of Buchanan and Hayes streets about 5 p.m. when their Mercedes SUV slammed into a beige van, sending the driver of that vehicle to the hospital, witnesses said. The suspects also hit two other vehicles before coming to a stop.

The Stockton parolee who last year led cops on a wild chase with three children in his vehicle was sentenced Tuesday to more than five years in state prison.Fernando Lugo, 33, pleaded no contest in January to the April 21 chase in Pacifica in which he raced down residential streets at 70 mph, blasting through stop signs and past elementary schools, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

A man and woman were arrested Sunday evening after a chase that started in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood, continued onto Interstate Highway 280 and ended in the city’s Potrero Hill neighborhood, police said.Officers responded to a report of a fight involving a gun at a gas station at the intersection of San Bruno Avenue and Dwight Street at about 5:50 p.m. Sunday.
