The death on the Caltrain tracks Monday morning in Burlingame is being called an apparent suicide, according to the transit agency.The man, identified as a 39-year-old from San Francisco, was struck by a northbound train near the Oak Grove Avenue pedestrian crossing around 6:20 a.m., the transit agency said. Burn-related death at care facility investigated

Bruce Smith was smoking outside the Burlingame Long-Term Care facility at 3:30 p.m. when he apparently dropped the cigarette onto his gown, which caught fire. Days later, the 67-year-old died at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco from the burns he suffered. The fatal fire is now under investigation by state and local health authorities.
