Mayor Gavin Newsom will help welcome a Buddha statue to The City before turning his focus to fiscal matters.
Newsom will be one of the dignitaries on hand as “Three Heads Six Arms” is unveiled at the Joseph L. Alioto Performing Arts Piazza in front of City Hall on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Then he will sequester himself in meetings to further whittle down The City’s budget deficit.

Zhang Huan’s 15-ton sculpture of Buddha is officially coming to The City. Plans for the “Three-Headed, Six-Armed Buddha” will be unveiled Tuesday at a celebration of San Francisco’s sister city partnership with Shanghai. The event will be held at the Asian Art Museum at 10:30 a.m. The Buddha could be on display at Civic Center Plaza.

A 15-ton Buddha sculpture could reside in The City’s Civic Center Plaza if the area’s infrastructure proves strong enough to support the six-armed behemoth.
Officials are investigating whether the rooftop of the parking garage that’s buried beneath the plaza can safely support Chinese artist Zhang Huan’s “Three-Headed, Six-Armed Buddha.”
