Giants will decide soon whether to add Cabrera to postseason roster

There has been much debate and speculation about whether the Giants would or should add Melky Cabrera to their postseason roster, and Giants manager Bruce Bocky said on Tuesday the team will announce by Thursday whether it will consider adding him, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reported. Cabrera is serving a 50-game suspension after testing positive for testosterone, but he would be eligible to play in the postseason in the Giants’ sixth playoff game, if they get that far. Read More

Brandon Belt hit “rock bottom” July 22 during a 4-3 extra-inning loss in Philadelphia. He struck out in the top of the 12th with no outs and a runner on second base, dropping his July batting average to .171 (12-for-70, 25 strikeouts). Big move not always best, as illustrated by Giants, Dodgers

The most memorable thing about Marco Scutaro’s first game with the Giants on July 28 is the anxiety that filled AT&T Park. The Los Angeles Dodgers blasted the Giants 10-0 that day to earn a tie for first place in the National League West. The boys in blue had acquired Hanley Ramirez from the Miami Marlins earlier in the week, and he knocked in three runs after hitting a game-winning home run in extra innings the previous night. Even though the game looked more like one played in March instead of late September, San Diego Padres closer Huston Street will have pleasant memories of Sunday’s contest. Street earned the 200th save of his career, pitching for the first time since Aug. 10, as San Diego snapped the Giants’ six-game winning streak 6-4 less than 24 hours after San Francisco danced on the same field in celebration of clinching a second division title in three seasons. He had three hits and was the hero with a two-out single to left, scoring Brandon Crawford with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-8. Bochy making right calls down stretch

The Giants pulled off an amazing sweep of the Dodgers in Los Angeles this week, which was a compliment both to their resiliency and the ability of manager Bruce Bochy to make the right decisions. The first decision came Tuesday night, when Tim Lincecum started struggling in the sixth inning. Bochy has always stayed with his top starters and let them work out of trouble, but Lincecum is not in that category this year. Read More

Lincecum knocked around as Giants drop finale to Nats

Stephen Strasburg pitched six innings, allowed four hits, two runs, and struck out seven for the Washington Nationals in a 6-4 victory and a series win over the Giants on Wednesday. Lincecum, San Francisco Giants sweep Rockies
