City to shell out $775K for Sixth St. police substation

The City announced it will shell out $775,000, in addition to future rent costs, to create a police substation on Sixth Street in the mid-Market Street area. The Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee approved the plan Wednesday over concerns about the cost and effectiveness of the substation. Supervisors create program to provide counsel in civil cases

Despite concerns about the impact on The City’s budget, on Tuesday San Francisco became first city in the United States to grant its citizens a right to civil counsel.While defendants in criminal cases are entitled to counsel if they cannot afford one, the same right does not apply to civil cases, leaving many people involved in domestic violence, child custody and eviction cases without legal representation. San Francisco police have trouble communicating at 49ers playoff games

San Francisco approves America's Cup environmental plan

The hope for a 140-foot JumboTron-carrying barge in Aquatic Park for the America’s Cup was sunk Tuesday after members of swimming clubs blasted the plan.  The elimination of that proposal helped secure the Board of Supervisors’ unanimous rejection of two appeals of the environmental impact report completed for the upcoming 34th America’s Cup regatta.
