It seems Mayor Ed Lee and Oakland Mayor Jean Quan are. In anticipation of the NFL exhibition game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders on Saturday, the two city leaders have placed a friendly bet.
If the 49ers win, Lee will get some Oakland Vice Chocolates, Blue Bottle Coffee and Oakland-based wine. If the 49ers lose, Quan will receive some fresh San Francisco produce, a pound of Philz Coffee and crab from Fisherman’s Wharf.

A North Carolina jewelry store owner made a $400,000 bet against a white Christmas — and lost. Alan Perry, owner of Perry’s Emporium in Wilmington, promised refunds for everything bought at his store between Nov. 26 and Dec. 11 if more than 3 inches of snow fell in Asheville on Christmas Day. There was more than 6 inches. Perry said the total payout for customers will be around $400,000.

Hoping to reconnect with young voters who helped elect him two years ago, President Obama on Thursday spoke out against Internet bullying and defended his administration's delay on repealing a ban on gays in the military.
But the live, televised town-hall gathering, sponsored by the cable networks MTV, BET and CMT, may not have revived young voters' support for the president as much as it highlighted how Obama lost their support in the first place.
