Mayor Ed Lee, Muni chief Ed Reiskin among notables participating in Walk to School day

Mayor Ed Lee, Muni executive director Ed Reiskin, and Supervisor Jane Kim will be among several city officials participating in Walk to School Day on Oct. 5.Overall, 44 city schools will take part in Walk to School Day, an international event aimed at drawing awareness to pedestrian needs and goals. Lyn-Tise Jones, on presiding over Maisin Scholar Award Alumni Reunion

Lyn-Tise Jones, a 25-year-old native of the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood, was the mistress of ceremonies at the recent Maisin Scholar Award Alumni Reunion. The Maisin Scholars program provides financial support to San Francisco students in underprivileged neighborhoods. Jones graduated from Fisk University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and sociology and now attends St. Mary’s College in Moraga. Read More

AT&T upgrades its network in Bayview-Hunters Point

AT&T showed off a recent cell site upgrade to the network that serves the Bayview-Hunters Point area of San Francisco, and representatives said the neighborhood will benefit. “People don’t just want to talk -- they want to connect,” said AT&T spokesman John Britton.AT&T representatives said the upgrades would enhance mobile broadband coverage to the area. Bayview-Hunters Point parks to receive advocates

Lafayette Park has a neighborhood group that advocates for it. So does Glen Canyon Park. And Dolores Park has several. But the 11 parks in the Bayview-Hunters Point area have not had a loud advocating voice, and local resident Geoffrea Morris wondered if that was why those other parks are getting renovated while the parks in her neighborhood seem to be in a state of perpetual disrepair.
