A recycling center located across the street from the Lowe’s home improvement center in the Bayview was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning, police said.
A 21-year-old employee at Our Planet Recycling at 531 Bayshore Blvd. told police the crook had turned in a ticket for recycling just before 7:30 a.m. When the victim opened her register, police said, the suspect, a man in his 30s, pulled out a handgun and bag and demanded cash.

The security guard at a BevMo store in the Bayview district opened fire on a shoplifter who allegedly tried to run him over with his car Wednesday night, police said.
The guard narrowly escaped injury during the wild getaway at the discount booze shop at 201 Bayshore Blvd. around 7 p.m. The suspect successfully fled and has not been found.

Big box outlets that hope to follow Lowe’s into the Bayshore Boulevard corridor might have to wait for a year or more.
The Board of Supervisors is poised to approve interim zoning rules that would force large retail stores or chain stores to secure a conditional use permit before opening a location along the corridor.
A Lowe’s store is under construction at 491 Bayshore Boulevard.
