Just days after vandals released 40,000 juvenile Chinook salmon into the San Francisco Bay, the remaining 20,000 young fish were released from their pens at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies over the weekend.Vandals again cut the ties that held the nets containing the 8- to 10-inch salmon in place. The salmon were being kept in three pens that measure 25 by 16 by 8 feet.

An early October storm hit the Bay Area on Tuesday night, making roads hard to handle, a California Highway Patrol officer said.According to CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano overnight rain led to flooding in Oakland, San Jose, Marin, parts of state Highway 17 near Santa Cruz and San Francisco.Caggiano said Caltrans has been busy clearing drains to relieve flooding and the CHP has been handling many collisions overnight.

Skies have turned gray over the Bay Area, and rainfall is expected for the next few days as a storm system from the Gulf of Alaska passes through the region, a National Weather Service forecaster said. “The Bay Area might see some light rain and maybe a few splashes of moderate rain throughout the day and into this evening,” forecaster Diana Henderson said this morning.

A window on an AC Transit bus was shattered early this morning when someone fired a BB gun at the bus in Oakland. The shooting happened at about 12:26 a.m. in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Powell Street, near the Emeryville border, AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson said.There were six passengers on the bus at the time, and no one was injured, Johnson said.

Medical concerns related to her pregnancy prevented Giselle Esteban from coming to court today on a charge that she murdered nursing student Michelle Le. Alameda County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson said Esteban, a 27-year-old Union City woman, didn’t have to be hospitalized and isn’t having a medical emergency but a doctor decided she wasn’t well enough to be bused from the county jail in Dublin to the Hayward courthouse.
