BART riders should expect delays until about 2:30 p.m. today as construction in the Transbay Tube continues.BART has shut one of the two tracks in the Transbay Tube to perform maintenance and repair work to electric cables. Construction will continue next weekend, BART spokesman Linton Johnson said.The repair work means that riders who use the tube to cross the San Francisco Bay could face delays of between 20 and 40 minutes.

Some showers and gray skies are expected in the Bay Area today as a weak storm system makes its way through the region, a National Weather Service forecaster said. San Francisco and the North Bay are likely to see the most rain, with a 50 to 60 percent chance of showers, forecaster Diana Henderson said. Waiting on the boarding platform for trains to arrive could soon become a more visual experience for BART passengers.The agency is considering a proposal that would place 75 televisions in BART stations, with the screens beaming updates of arriving and departing trains, weather forecasts, and connecting information to local bus lines. The new televisions won’t entirely be an altruistic endeavor by BART — they’ll also be displaying advertising slogans.

A man accused of killing four Northern California women, including two in the Bay Area, appeared in Marin County Superior Court on Thursday morning for a hearing on his request to act as his own attorney.Joseph Naso, 77, told Judge Andrew Sweet that he doesn’t think he can afford to hire a lawyer. “An attorney would exhaust all my resources,” Naso said. He also said he has other reasons for his request.
