Weeknight Dumbarton Bridge lane closures expected to affect traffic until August 2012

Due to long-term construction underway on the Dumbarton Bridge, Caltrans began closing lanes in each direction on the bridge Monday night to facilitate the seismic retrofit that is expected to be completed by August 2012.Motorists should expect overnight lane closures in either direction during the ongoing construction work, with up to two of the three bridge lanes in each direction affected. Bay Bridge repair work under way

Caltrans contractors began cutting a cracked section of a load-bearing beam out of the Bay Bridge last weekend. The crack was discovered Labor Day weekend, but repair efforts failed. That prompted a new strategy requiring nighttime lane closures, which started Friday. “Tonight, we will complete removal of the damaged portion and will begin installing new steel,” bridge spokesman Bart Ney said Sunday.
