Japanese-American sculptor Ruth Asawa, 85, is known for designing many of San Francisco’s public fountains but now a school will bear her name as well.San Francisco School of the Arts, The City’s only public arts high school, will unveil a new marquee tomorrow with its new name, Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts. The ceremony also will mark the school’s 30th year -- it was founded in 1982 by Asawa and other local artists and parents.

Following a heartfelt meeting Tuesday in which tears were shed by a member on the Board of Education, the board voted to rename San Francisco’s School of the Arts High School the Ruth Asawa San Francisco High School of the Arts.
Asawa is a world-famous artist who led the effort to establish the school in 1981, the San Francisco Unified School District said.
