Friday service to be held for firefighters

A funeral service will be held Friday for the two firefighters killed in Thursday’s blaze in the Diamond Heights neighborhood, according to the Fire Department.Lt. Vincent “Vinnie” Perez, 48, died Thursday and firefighter-paramedic Anthony “Tony” Valerio, 53, died Saturday due to injuries from the fire.Friday’s service will be held at Saint Mary’s Cathedral at 1111 Gough St., a Fire Department lieutenant said. Second firefighter dead in Diamond Heights blaze

A second firefighter died Saturday morning as a result of injuries sustained in a Diamond Heights blaze. Antony “Tony” Valerio, 53, was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital at 7:40 a.m., Dr. Andre Campbell said. “The injuries were too much for him,” Campbell said. “This morning, we had to declare him dead.” For more photos, click on the photo to the right.
