Thief walks out of prison, drives off in nearby tow truck

A man arrested on suspicion of stealing a tow truck that had been parked across the street from county jail in the South of Market district had just been let out of the correctional facility, according to police. Cops baffled by theft of $3,000 worth of electronics from parked car

San Francisco cops are baffled by a robbery report in which the victim left more than $3,000 worth of electronics — including an Apple iPad — in a parked car overnight. On Twitter Friday, Northern Station police Capt. Anne Mannix reported the car break-in at Filbert and Divisadero streets. Police are warning of an uptick in burglaries in Marina district apartment buildings, saying unwitting residents might be inviting the crooks indoors.The burglars are hitting multiunit buildings between Buchanan Street and west of Polk Street, according to cops at the Northern Police Station.Burglary reports in the area have been on the rise during the past few months, police reported.
