Two adults and an 18-month-old boy died when their SUV collided with a light-rail train in Sacramento, moments after the vehicle's driver ignored flashing warning lights and veered around a rail crossing arm, authorities say.
The only other person in the Nissan Pathfinder, a woman in her 30s, was hospitalized with serious injuries, said Niko King, assistant chief with the Sacramento Fire Department.

California workplace regulators are investigating the death of a logger who was killed in an apparent logging accident in a remote area of Northern California.
The Times-Standard reports (http://bit.ly/zlubM9 ) that Juan Eparaza Ruiz was found dead between two logs around 2:30 p.m. Thursday on property owned by Green Diamond Resource Company.

A hospital spokesman says a worker who was injured when a floor collapsed at an Ohio casino construction site remains in serious condition a day later as investigators work to figure out what happened.
More than a dozen workers were hurt Friday morning at the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati site, where they were pouring a section of concrete floor.

Several members of an Oklahoma men's college basketball team have sustained minor injuries when their bus collided with a semi-truck east of Oklahoma City.
According to a statement from St. Gregory's University officials, the accident occurred Saturday afternoon as the bus was headed to Rogers State University in Claremore for a game.

Authorities in the Bahamas say a 26-year-old U.S. tourist has died aboard a Carnival cruise ship and the cruise has been delayed pending the investigation.
Bahamas police said in a statement Saturday that a man from South Carolina apparently jumped from one floor to another aboard the Carnival Fantasy ship that had docked in Nassau late Friday. He was declared dead at the scene.

Firefighters pulled more bodies from the rubble of three collapsed buildings in downtown Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, raising the death toll to at least 17 as hopes faded for finding anyone alive almost three days after the disaster.
A Rio de Janeiro fire department official said the search for survivors would continue at least through Sunday, but the chances of finding anyone alive are "practically nonexistent."

Rough seas off Italy's Tuscan coast forced a delay in the planned Saturday start of the operation to remove a half-million gallons of fuel from the grounded Costa Concordia, and officials said pumping may now not begin until midweek.
Recovery operations continued, however, and on Saturday yielded a 17th body: The woman who wasn't wearing a life jacket was found by divers on the submerged sixth floor deck, civil protection officials said.
