Sam Miller drives Lowell to fourth straight AAA golf title

Lowell High School boys’ golf coach Juan Lopez has been stressing to his players all season long on the importance of mental toughness. “I ask them what’s going to happen if the shots are not falling their way,” Lopez said. “Are they going to dwell on it or move on and be able to overcome it and come up with something good on their next shot?” Read More

The most dominant boys’ tennis program in the history of the San Francisco Section proved its mettle once again in Thursday’s Academic Athletic Association tournament championship match at Golden Gate Park. Balboa cruises to win against Galileo

Records this early in the Academic Athletic Association girls’ volleyball season can be misleading. Even though Galileo Academy came into it’s match against defending AAA champion Balboa tied for first place with an undefeated league record, the Lions hadn’t faced a team with the size, power and experience of the Bucs, and that became very apparent quickly on Tuesday. Marshall is hoping to start new era under young coach

There’s a line that some around The City say with a snicker about the Thurgood Marshall High School athletic programs. There’s more untapped talent walking around the hallways at Marshall than on the field — at any school in San Francisco. Whether that’s true is almost impossible to determine, but it speaks to the problem at the school in the southeast corner of The City, or at the very least the perceived problem. Read More

Galileo is banking on growing as a team

The Galileo football team had one of the youngest groups in the Academic Athletic Association in 2011 and, in several moments last season, that inexperience was glaringly evident. With 20 players from last season’s 31-man varsity roster being underclassmen — including 12 sophomores — the Lions missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008, and in the roller-coaster year, the lows were stunningly low.
