Two men unwittingly stabbed at Golden Gate Bridge fireworks event

Two men were stabbed at Aquatic Park during a fight at the Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th anniversary fireworks show Sunday night, police said. The victims suffered knife wounds to their torsos, but they told cops they did not realize they had been stabbed until walking away from the melee. Both men are expected to survive. Read More

Plans afoot to celebrate San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge 75th Anniversary

A year’s worth of plans are afoot to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Bay Bridge.Starting this month, bridge officials will unveil a series of celebrations of the span, which opened to traffic Nov. 12, 1936. One the events is the unveiling of the Bay Lights Project, an illuminated sculpture designed by artist Leo Villareal featuring 30,000 LED lights. Read More

Museum owes its roots to a grand canal

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art exists as it does today thanks to a germ sowed by the 1915 Pan-Pacific International Exposition and watered by a group of guerilla artists.The expo was a yearlong celebration of the new Panama Canal and the newly rebuilt San Francisco, nine years after the great earthquake brought The City to its knees. Museums from around the world lent great works of art to The City for the celebration, and other artists created special works for it. Read More
