Jim Harbaugh had no shortage of words before his 49ers faced the New York Giants again. After the Niners had been smashed more than they ever had in his tenure, the second-year coach kept his comments to a minimum.
“It wasn’t a great day for any of us,” he said.
Alex Smith threw three interceptions in his worst start in almost three years, and the 49ers fell 26-3 to the Giants on Sunday at Candlestick Park in a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship Game.

It wasn’t very difficult for Mario Manningham to leave the New York Giants after winning a Super Bowl.
The fleet wide receiver is happy in his new home with the 49ers, another championship contender that’s making better use of Manningham than the Giants ever did.
It’s a different situation for Brandon Jacobs. Now healthy after a preseason knee injury, Jacobs has yet to play for the 49ers this season.

Kyle Williams circled this week’s game against the New York Giants as soon as the NFL schedule was released in April.
He and his 49ers teammates have some unfinished business against the Super Bowl champions.
Williams’ two turnovers on punt returns played a key role in helping the Giants win last season’s NFC
Championship Game 20-17 in overtime, costing San Francisco a trip to the Super Bowl.

Alex Smith had just engineered the most offense in 49ers history and the best balanced approach the NFL had ever witnessed when the attention started to shift to this week’s NFC championship game rematch against the New York Giants.

NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis will harass the quarterback. The defense will probably force a turnover. Frank Gore will run for around 100 yards and Alex Smith will protect the ball.
Everybody pretty much knows what to expect from the 49ers by now.
That’s hardly the case with the Buffalo Bills.

Every week, 49ers tight end Vernon Davis anxiously awaits the game plan offensive coordinator Greg Roman is conjuring up. For Davis, Roman’s creativity has stood out since his arrival as part of Jim Harbaugh’s staff prior to last season.
Davis has been particularly impressed by Roman’s acumen for taking advantage of each individual’s strengths and finding ways to keep everyone involved.

The 49ers defense has a little inside game of its own going on in practice each week to force as many turnovers as possible to prepare for more of the same come Sunday.
Linebacker NaVorro Bowman claims his unit had nine turnovers during one such session recently — though quarterback Alex Smith begs to differ, calling that number inflated.
The total hardly matters, it’s the principle.
