Rancid’s titanic Tim Armstrong shows no signs of slowing down.
Currently on tour with his Bay Area punk firebrands, and fresh from producing one of the greatest reggae voices ever recorded, the legendary Jimmy Cliff, he’ll soon be breaking into a brand new medium on Oct. 21.
Intended as an homage to classic American musicals, the first program, titled “Dante,” revolves around the poet’s “Inferno,” and stars A.F.I.’s Davey Havok, Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen and “CSI” mainstay Robert David Hall.
“Doing a show centered on musical theatre isn’t really a stretch for me,” reckons Renaissance man Armstrong. “For 25 years I’ve been making music and collaborating with friends, been involved in hundreds of videos. And it’s really just a direct extension of my world.”
To produce, Armstrong teamed with longtime associate David Robertson. Kevin Kerslake directed the pilot, Michael Rooney will choreograh, and Mary Vernieu will cast. All that and a new Rancid live CD/DVD, too!
