Last week, the 49ers gave off good vibes. Jimmy Garoppolo was on board and John Lynch was preparing to change the team in free agency. After Reuben Foster’s arrest on domestic violence and weapons charges, the excitement has been put on hold.
Suddenly, the team has to figure out if Foster is the long-term answer at linebacker despite him being one of the best at this position during his rookie season.
Foster was arrested and booked at the Santa Clara County Jail on Sunday, according to Sarah Ravani and Eric Branch of the Chronicle.
It’s the second time in a month when Foster ran afoul of the law. On Jan, 12, he was arrested in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for second-degree marijuana possession — a Class A misdemeanor.
This is the last thing any organization wants to deal with, let alone the 49ers, who are no stranger to this type of heinous misbehavior.
Whether Foster is proven innocent or not, he’s been in the news for all of the wrong reasons the last two years of his life, something that must change immediately if he’s going to realize his incredible potential.
We’ll see if this promising 23-year old can rectify this developing situation. He’s a lovable guy with a million dollar smile, but DV will rightly make most overlook that.
